It rained last night!!!!! And, today, it's only 72 degrees, with a cool breeze blowing. Heaven!
As usual, the squirrels and chipmunks are hanging out, especially after I put out the morning feed.
Honest to gosh, I could probably devote a whole blog to these two types of critters. Which are cuter
Squirrels?
Or Chipmunks?
I vote tie!
The birds were breakfasting, too. This group caught an early meal, before they were off on their Sunday doings.
Mrs. Cardinal made a brief appearance, looking for hubby, perhaps, since she looks a little angry?
The Mourning Dove, in contrast, was a picture of sweet serenity.
Even Mr. and Mrs. Goldfinch were dining, together this week, so they must have made up the differences that lead to dining at separate tables a couple of weeks ago.
I've been holding out, waiting for the Turkey Ladies to make an appearance, but they haven't deigned to appear this morning. They must be brunching somewhere else. If they do come around, I'll put up a later blog about them. In the meantime, have a wonderful, and hopefully cooler, Sunday.

oh, lucky you and all the critters you have around. rain and cooler temps. win-win...
your squirrels have such big ears compared to our little fox ones. i wish we had chippies here, but i'll just enjoy yours!
Dumb question - do you have coyotes up there?
Hands down about the squirrels vs chipmunks - definite tie! Great clear shots!
We have a drippy morning and some fog, think it's about 75 and with the forecast of 94 it will equal hell, this afternoon.
Well I agree, it's a toss-up between the squirrels and the chipmunks...and the goats of course! ;-)
Louise, Glad you're getting some relief from the heat. It's a bit cooler here too. I vote for chipmunks. Grey squirrels are just too hard on bird feeders.
YAY for rain and 72 degrees...I cannot remember when we last had either of those. It looks like you have a little creek meandering in your back yard....can you hear the water rippling?
I vote of chipmunks...the squirrels are eating our deck planters.
Hugs Madi and Mom
It's cool here also which Boom & I appreciate. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I would also have to say chipmunks are cuter... but that's because we don't have them, so I don't get to see them as much. Our SC neighbor had two squirrels (Lumpy and Jim) who used to peer in the sliding glass door when they were hungry! Our neighbor was well trained and would respond to the polite request!
Glad you got a break in the weather. That must be energizing.
Cooler is nice. Just ask Boom. Great activity in your backyard. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
72 degrees! I am so jealous, we had storms, high winds, 3 inches of rain (which we needed) and it hasn't even got down to 72 at night, it is sweltering! I saw your photo on Facebook, mutual friend, so I sent a friend request a little bit ago, I hope it is you anyway, lol.
Definitely a tie.
Thanks for your comment, Louise - just popping in again to say I've just been watching Sky News and there's a lot about the heatwave and drought in parts of the US - it looks sweltering. Awful! I would rather be too cold than to hot - I am not a hot weather person!
personally I lean towards Chips. They are more sensitive and vulnerable, which adds that air of innocence.
Plus how can you resist cheek pouches
Yay! I'm glad you caught a break in the weather. I bet the kitties appreciate it too. Mine are miserable when it's hot.
so jealous, rain and lower temps!
love those little chipmunks with their cheeks filled with food
Great shots of the squirrel drinking and the chippy with the full cheeks!
We're still in need of a good rain here. It's drizzling, but nothing helpful!
Omg squirrels are just the cutest and most entertaining creatures. Thought about you yesterday on my trip up to the sanctuary, i saw lots of turkeys in the fields, so i stopped and watched in awe for a while, and here they show up in your garden all the time. How special is that! Lucky you!
I love the rodents too! But, so many people don't that it surprises me! I can see why the fox would visit your yard - there's a feast waiting there for him.
BTW, you may not care, but some of your "chipmunks" are actually "golden mantled ground squirrels". You can tell the difference because chipmunks have lines on their faces and ground squirrels do not. The ground squirrels are also a little bigger. In your photos, I think that the first one is a chipmunk (the lines on his face are a little hard to see, though) and the rest are GM Ground Squirrels. We have both here too!
I was getting ready to say squirrels were cuter, than you posted the chipmunk photo and I said the same thing you did...TIE!
lol!
I really like your new blog name. It fits perfectly. I hope you like it, too.
Nice to see the bird couples getting long and dining together. hehe!
Is that a pond in your backyard???
