What a Wonderful Day!

Yesterday, I went to Isobelle's Lady's house. We had been invited for breakfast by a friend of her's and I picked the Lady up.

We got to their lovely house, and the Lady's Friend fed us a wonderful breakfast. We had waffles so soft and sweet that they melted in your mouth, with fresh berries to top them. Along with that, we had fresh squeezed orange juice. The Friend's Husband made us coffee, just the way I like it -- strong enough so that it actually tastes like coffee, not dishwater with a bit of coffee flavor. I ate and drank until I was very full. I should have taken pictures, but I was too busy stuffing my face.

After breakfast we took a walk around their property. They have made paths through all of the wooded areas, making lots of lovely places to stroll. The first thing we saw was Wild Bergamot, also know as Wild Bee Balm or Monarda.

There was a very pretty snail

And, this dainty white flower that I am feeling too lazy to try to identify. I'll update later, if I find out.

The land, now grown over, was once a vineyard. I thought all of the grapevines I was seeing were just wild grapes, until the Lady's Friend pointed out how large the maturing grapes were. All these years later, and there are still wine grapes growing wild in the woods.

But, as beautiful as the woods were, the gardens were 1,000% more so. This woman has a way with flowers, without a doubt!

My pictures just do not do these gardens justice.

We stayed for quite a while, the three of us chatting and discussing everything from "cabbages to kings." I was very glad to have met this lovely woman, who is such a good friend to the Lady.

I couldn't get those berries out of my mind. They had been so fresh and good. So after our visit, the Lady and I went down to the village so that I could get some for myself. I have forgotten the name of the stand, but it is a village institution, and we happily wandered around for quite a while before making our selections.

Besides all of the lovely berries that I bought, I found something that I had been looking for. I have needed a new coffee table for a while now. The one I had was from the mid-fifties. It was battered, both by my mistreatment as a child (it was the perfect place to color on) and, later, by the soft, moist feet of four cats whose Servant never taught them the necessity of staying off of the furniture.

I don't like most modern furniture. It tends to be too big, too bulky and, well, too modern for my little farmhouse. But, at this little stand, I found the perfect table -- a slab of solid distressed cherry on legs, that I knew would fit right in to my house. And, only $40!

Back to the Lady's house we went, where I visited with all of her critters, Thistle, Ting-a-Ling, and Bree, the dogs; the chickens, including the very adorable young hens; and, of course, the lovely Isobelle and her cohorts.

What a lovely day, thanks to two lovely ladies!

That sounds like a perfect day. How lovely.

Thanks for the lake info, Louise. They are both really beautiful, especially to a prairie dweller!

The waffles with berries sound soooo yummy.
Love your 'new' coffee table. I have always loved the look and color of Cherry wood.
So happy that you had such a wonderful day.
Oh, loved the pic of that snail. It really is very pretty.

Well, if that wasn't a perfect day, it came close!

Love the gardens, I couldn't do that in a million years!

Neat coffee table! Good choice!

re: old tree, DH says it was 3 trees that had grown together from the start, near as he could tell. The trees were all dead. (Hey there Mr. Ranger, sir, can we cut that old, dead mess out of there? LOL! - would never happen...)

My mouth is watering for those waffles and fruit:) We used to have a big outdoor market like that but it is long gone and replaced by flimsy tents in the parking lots of big box stores. Even our local farmer's markest are held in mall parking lots. Something so commercial about them, fresh tomatoes at Edgebrook Shopping Center doesn't sound like home grown goodness.

Hi Louise!! I was having problems with my DSL earlier today and see that some of my comments may not have gone through--In case it didn't, I will just say that I'm so glad that you had an enjoyable day!! There's nothing like the company of a friend and her beautiful garden to enjoy too!

The white tubular flower is most likely a beardtongue (Penstemon)of which Foxglove Beardtongue - P. digitalis is the most widespread.

The Bergamot is nearly played out up here. Check them closely and you should find Ambush bugs hiding. It's easy to miss them since they look like a bit of debris caught in the flower..
