This Isn't New York City

I know that when a lot of people think of New York State, the first thing that comes to mind is New York City. I can't tell you how often people on forums have said to me that it must be nice to be so close to "The City." But, we're not close, and I am very happy about that, because I'm not a city girl. When I was young, this area was still pretty much country, and, even now, you don't have to go very far to be surrounded by farms and woods.

Western New York State is anywhere from six to seven hours away from New York City. It includes the Finger Lakes Region, which, for sheer beauty, matches any area that I have seen.

We have Letchworth State Park, which is often called the Grand Canyon of the East.

And, thousands of little nooks and crannies, just full of beautiful things to see.

It even has a beautiful goat named Isobelle, shown here with her Mom, Narcissa. Their Lady is a good friend of mine.

I remember that whenever we went for a trip out of state, when I was young, my Mother would always sigh a big sigh and say "Ahhhhh, beautiful New York State" when we drove back into the state. And, you know what? I still agree with her.

Hey! Woo hoo! It's me and Mom! I'm coming along on your next field trip, Louise. You have a big enough car and I can hop right in! hee hee

Isobelle, I keep telling your Lady to teach you how to walk nicely on a harness and lead. Then, you can hop in the back of my car any time, and go on a field trip with us.

Isobelle comes to my blog too, she's a darling little goat.

Yes, New York is sorta like North Carolina, we have the coast, to the piedmont, some big cities in between and then up to the mountains. We've traveled a little through NY and were in awe. A cousin of mine went to college in Plattsburg. Mine/her relatives lived on Long Island and had a summer house in Montauk, I'm sure it is much more dveloped now than when I was there.

I agree with you about the beauty of upstate NY. Having seen your pictures and others I for sure wish to visit someday.

I bet you cannot wait for Spring thaw to get out and noodle around and discover new favorite places

Your first two pictures illustrate the function of glacial formation in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. I have had scores of world-travelers and visitors from all over the world as guests here and they universally concur that our neck of the woods is among the most spectacular in the world! Looking at your pics, it's not hard to see why.

There was no prettier part of the drive between Massachusetts and Michigan than where the Thruway goes through Upstate. It's SO much nicer than down where my brother lives in Westchester. (He'd rather live up there, too, but as he works for the county airport authority it would a rather long commute.)

Wheeee! Another friend of Isobelle's! She's such a popular goat! Well of course, because she's such a beauty! Seriously, the first thing I think of when I hear New York is the wine from the Finger Lakes region. I am a HUGE fan! And then I think of the beautiful areas I go through when I drive from Iowa to Nova Scotia, once every other year or so. There are some breathtaking views. How lovely to see more nice pictures!
