A Visit With the Skoogs

Today was a red letter day for me. I met another blogger! Lori Skoog, of "The Skoog Farm Journal," http://skoogfarm.blogspot.com/ invited me for lunch. I had a wonderful time. Lori lives in the most beautiful old house, full of warmth and cheer. It's the kind of a house that, the minute you walk into it, you feel at home. Of course, it takes warm and generous people to make a house a home, and Lori and her husband have done just that.

I fell in love with her two little dogs, Phoebe and Gucci. They are just so cute and friendly. They love to be petted, scratched and fussed over. Just my kind of dogs. I also met her cute kittens, Seymour and Sidney. Man, is Sidney tiny! Funny and bouncy little rascals, both of them.

We had a lovely lunch with her and her husband, with plenty of good food (the best salad I ever ate) and good conversation. We even discovered that we had a couple of mutual acquaintances, my vet and his Mom, who was my instructor for many years.

I have pictures, but, being the horse crazy old lady that I am, they are all of her lovely equines.

Here comes part of the crew, in from the blistering hot outdoors for a rest in their cool stalls and some lovely hay.

A friend of Lori's brought her granddaughter over to meet the horses. She was a little shy, but Pony said, "Give me a carrot and I'll be your friend for life."

But, I have to admit it, I fell in absolute love with her boarder's horse. King Mustafa is a huge Hanoverian. When I was younger, and thinner, I rode dressage. I fell in love with Warmbloods, and Hanoverians in particular. King Mustafa is a real gentleman, and I soon found his itchy spot. I had that lower lip going in no time. Man, he is big, and sturdy and perfect.

I brought Lori a small bunch of daylilies. But, I got the better part of the deal when they sent me home with a huge boxful of them, and a string of the most beautiful onions I have seen in a long time. I can't wait to fry some of them. I was going to do it tonight, but, I think I'll wait until I can get to the store and pick up a good steak. Nothing is as good as steak and fried onions.

So, thank you very much, Lori, for a great day. I enjoyed myself immensely. And, if King Mustafa suddenly disappears, you'll know where to look!

I have been hoping to meet some of the bloggers, but, sadly, they all seem to live way too far away. It's so nice that you had lunch with one of your blogging friends! I was checking out the barn - whoa - nice! Nice looking horses too. Yep, if King Mustafa goes missing, you would be the first place they look. Gorgeous.

Oh, how nice! I follow Lori's blog too, and enjoy her home, her horses, and her food. Hanoverians are my absolute favorite.

The best thing and the worst thing about bloggers is that they often live too far away to visit personally. I say best thing because it is interesting to hear from folks in different states or even countries. But sometimes I would like to get know them in person.
