My Flower Obsession

Some people are crazy about Roses, and some have multitudes of Iris in their yards, but, for me, the flower that I love above all other is the Day Lily. I have a lot of different varieties, and, this Spring, I bought six new ones and put them in a special new garden.

Since then, I have picked up two more, one just yesterday. I don't even know where I am going to put these. I may have to dig another garden. Sigh.

My first Day Lily started to bloom a few days ago. It's nothing special, just the common roadside variety. But, if you look closely, you'll see the beauty in even this simple variety.

I love day lily, all lily in fact. If I had a garden Day Lily and Peony would always find room.

Very pretty! I love lilies, all kinds! You must have the best dirt, where you can just dig up a garden any time you want to!

I wish you lived closer. I'm thinning mine and would be happy to share.

My father calls them 'tawny daylilies' because that is what they called them when he was a kid. I like that. Now people call the old fashioned orange ones 'ditch lilies', sounds unpleasant. I see them everywhere, growing in fencerows and abandoned farmyards--and ditches. I like to think about some farmer's wife or bride bringing them from her mother's to make a garden in her new home.

They brighten the roadside. I love them.

That's so lovely. I wish I could have a garden -- but no luck this year. I'll just enjoy yours and other blogger friends' flowers.--Inger

You should hook up with Willow House Chronicles - she has a thing for day lilies, too!

Hi Gaye! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I used to have about 200 daylilies, but left a lot behind when I moved to Willow House a year and a half ago. Now I have about 80, including about 20 new this year. My daylilies are just putting up scapes and I'm looking forward to the bloom season.

Yes, I have two arabs. The bay, Czarina, was a rescue from the stockyards. With my daughter, we also have a quarter horse who was in need of a new home when we found her.

Nice to 'meet' you.
