That little chipmunk is the only creature, feathered or furred, that I have seen at the feeders all morning. I wonder what is going on? I looked at the trees, don't see any hawk. Maybe something is lurking, just beyond my sight? Ohhhhhh, I've scared myself.

Hee, it's very unusual to see your yard looking so empty1 You must be feeling lonely, but what a treat for that chipmunk, to have the buffet to himself!
Seems a bit ominous, maybe the lone chipmunk is blissfully ignorant.
I wonder if our fine feathered and furry friends can sense Irene?
You all stay safe and dry this weekend.
We are requesting Purrs for the east coast. My sis and her hubby live in Morehead City...they have all their hurricane window protections up and will hunker down at home with their kitty, parrot and fishes. They are always welcomed here but have decided to stay home. They understand hurricane's better than we do so we just have to accept their decision....but it is HARD.

maybe they're sensing the weather patterns on their way to the east coast... :)
I think you can be pretty sure they feel Irene in the air. Years ago there was an earthquake in Alaska and we were shocked to hear that every animal in our Washington Zoo made its noise. They are smart cookies all of the critters are!

yeah! i bet they can sense the terrible weather.

Yes, I'm thinking Irene too. Our coyotes are our best weather predictors. They complain loud and long before bad weather.
It sounds like when I hear corvids going wild someplace near my in the forest. I get really scared about what they're so upset about!
...I'm hearing the 'Jaws' music - waiting for something to jump out and scare me!
I pray you'll be safe from the storm, and that those directly in the path will have gotten to safety. Take care.

Louise -- I do think some of your comments cover what is happening. It's the weather coming up the coast. On Bedlam Farms, a blog out of New York he mentioned this morning that the birds weren't singing. But then again, just before a rain storm around my home the birds are in a frenzy to eat and fly. Then all at once they are quiet, all of them. Rather eerie but wondrous. -- barbara
No birds singing or eating here in northern WV, either...quite odd!
Pig didn't even come for breakfast.
Since i come here and visit you i have not seen such an empty pic! Maybe something is going on behind the trees!?!
Thanks for the sweet comment on my blogpost last Monday!

I always think something's going on when all the birds bolt! I look and look trying to see what's up.
Wonder what could be causing this? Thanks for dropping by today, and yes it was good to get back home....even though we needed a break.
Be safe with Irene lurking around your state.
What a nice way to start my Sunday - I'm so glad to have found your blog! Hope you avoid the bad weather
