A dark and dreary day. It was supposed to be raining, and it did spit a little earlier, but, not enough to do anything but dampen the grass. The usual denizens of the feeder are around. These two mourning doves made their appearance very early this morning. I wonder if the kids have grown up and flown away? Hope that they all didn't become hawk or fox breakfast.
My begonia basket is shot. I'll have to find something else to hang there. Maybe another bird feeder? Trouble is, I don't really want to kill off another part of my lawn.
I'll leave you with a shot from yesterday. I'm trying, for reasons only those animal crazies among us will understand, to tame the chipmunks. So, almost every day, I try and go out and sit on the patio with a bowl of sunflower seeds. I scatter some around me, and put the bowl down, right in front of me. Judging by this shot, I would say that I'm having some success.
I've discovered that you can actually tell the difference between some of the chipmunks. Some time this week, I'll introduce you to a few.
Have a happy Sunday.

Btw, have a great week ahead!
I know the perfect book for you: Suburban Safari: A year on the lawn, by Hannah Holmes. The author spends an entire year recording amazing details of life in her backyard, and in the process befriends a chipmunk, who comes daily to her desk for peanuts and a little petting. A Must Read!
Oh boy I know what you mean about plants being on deaths door...even with watering it has been hard to keep the hanging and potted plants alive.
Oh how cute that the chipmunks are becoming very social with you. I'll look forward to more photos.
Happy Sunday ,

My dove pairs are coming around again and visiting, so maybe the young ones are grown up enough.
Can you just cut off some of the tops of the begonia - would it get pretty again?
Cute chipmunk! After you see them, day after day, you can spot differences in their little bodies and faces and even personalities. When I have my patio door and hummingbird feeder, I got to know the differences in the "regulars".
Hi Louise, That chipmunk's getting pretty brave. Would peanuts in the shell encourage him? Hope you're having a restful day.
Chipmunks???!?!?! They live in droves under my garden bed...help yourself!...:)JP
How cute! You really get the scale with the chipmunk and your shoe.
Your patience was rewarded! And I love the shot of the hawk -- we get them cruising our bird feeder now and again.
Very cool, getting to know the chipmunks! I had a squirrel run up into my lap the other day while I was sitting on the deck. I think that he was trying to tame me but I screeched so loudly that he probably won't be back soon!
I bet you will be able to tame them and I have no doubt that given good observation skills you'll be able to tell them apart - by looks and behavior. My neighbor in SC had two squirrels she befriended. One had some lumps so she always knew that one. The other had a paw that was twisted somehow. The one with the twisted paw would come up to her sliding door, putting the paw on the glass, to tell her there was no food out at the tree!
I'm happy to send you a tame groundhog! ;)
You sure you want to tame that little fellow? Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
