Poor Kid

A teenager went out, yesterday, on the ice shelf at Webster Park that I just photographed last week.
Unfortunately, he fell through and was in the water for about 10 minutes, before he was rescued.  He's in the hospital, suffering from severe hypothermia.  I hope he recovers completely.  I can see where something like this would be a terrible temptation to youngsters, who still think that they're immortal.  But, selfishly perhaps, I hope that they don't cordon off the area because of this.  And, I hope the town isn't faced with a big lawsuit.

Oh dear. I'm glad they were able to rescue him. I've certainly been guilty of doing some stupid things as a youngster and somehow survived them without incident.

I grew up on the edge of Lake Ontario, and it is a dangerous lake summer and winter!! Hope he's ok. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

Yes, I hope he will be OK too. Growing up in Sweden with all the lakes that froze in the winter, I still remember how we were drilled about never going on the ice unless an adult, who knew it was safe, was with us.--Inger

Wow, I hope he makes it through without any damage to body or brain. He probably won't try that again.

I remember (a long time ago) some idiot took his truck out on the lake, where we lived, they found him in his truck with his child, the following Spring. Very sad. I never went ice fishing after that. :(

Silly sod ! hope he recovers quickly and has learnt his lesson !

Sometimes the icy water does less damage to the tissues than we think...think cryogenics and all that. Still, the kid has a long road to recovery. I hope all goes well.

Oh no. I loved your photo of the ice shelf, and I can see how someone could go exploring and forget the danger.

Those frozen ice waves are so dangerous. I hope he will be alright. I remember thinking I would not perish no matter what. So much to learn. So little time.
Stay warm and stay safe

Oh, I hope he'll be alright! You're right about feeling immortal as a young person!

I hope they don't do something to keep us safe from ourselves at the lake. I hate that everything has to have warnings - like my iron that had a sticker letting me know that ironing my clothes while they are on my body could result in burns. Argghhh!
I hope the guy comes through OK.

Oh my, that's scary. I hope that the teenager is as good as new after recovering.

I think that it's impossible to protect people from all risks... so I agree that I hope that no one cordons off the area.

Oh my gosh...what a horrible accident we do hope the boy recovers. A child that age is his own worst enemy for the very reason you mentioned...they have no fear and have no common sense. Was he a local or visitor? I, too hope there will be no lawsuits...keep us posted.

Hope the youngster is okay. Every year around here there are inevitably several incidents of snowmobiles going through ice and people drowning. And out west, snowmobilers ignore avalanche warnings and are buried. I have less sympathy for them than for an adventurous, foolish teenager.
