Ya Think?

That this may be why the hawk got one of the mourning doves the other day.  He didn't even have to aim, just drop down and grab.

Oh yes. That's a definite draw for the taloned one! I love them tho. They're like my flock of chickens, scratching and pecking away... :)

LOVE those maple leaves in your header photo!!! Remind me of home (Wis.)

Accipiters are expert at taking one or a flock. Flock season is their high time though.

often, though they will watch a flock and bead in on one that is acting oddly or injured.

I have watched one patiently sit outside a bush a bird flew in to. It lost its patience and "jumped up" and kicked the bush. The bird flew out and he got it.

Smart hunter.

Notice how the one at the back is watching.

I have also seen a woodpecker freeze on one side of a trunk when it knew a Coopers was in a tree over the way. He hung in place about 1/2 hour

Ooo! Look at all of those yummy leaves in your header photo! mmmmm mmmmm! I like those plump birdies, Auntie Louise. We don't often see mourning doves down here in the valley.

A Thanksgiving banquet for the doves - and the hawk.

We have a pair of Red-Tailed hawks who treat our birdfeeder as a drop in buffet. Those plump doves are just too tempting . . .
