Out of My Rear Window 11/21/10

Cold and brisk today.  The feeders have been very quiet all morning so far.  No birds around at all, nor any squirrels.  There is a pile of mourning dove feathers near the feeder, but that's been there for a couple of days, so I don't think that's the cause.  Maybe they feel as depressed as I do today.
I'm depressed because we got some very bad news yesterday.  There is a case of EHV1 at the track.  This is a serious neurological disease that affects horses.  One barn has been quarantined.  Because we volunteers travel from barn to barn, we came to the unwanted conclusion that we cannot go to the track until quarantine has been lifted.  We go from barn to barn getting listings, and we don't want to unwittingly carry the virus from one barn to another.

At least, I'll have more time to blog.

Oh Louise, sorry to hear about the EHV1 case, and you feeling so down, but I know what going to the barn means to you. Just before going on your blog this morning, I was sitting here staring at my donkey pictures, crying, not really sure why, just seem a little bit overwhelmed with the love for them and the sad stories some of them have, thinking about Augusta who had a neurological problem too. Hope all the horses will be fine and things get back to "normal"soon for you. Hugs, Tina

Oh, that's terrible. I hope the quarantine can be lifted soon so you can continue your great work.

Looks like a hawk or owl got one of your mourning doves. Might be why the other birds are staying clear right now.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how important your work is, both to the horses and to your well-being. I read in another blog that a hawk got a mourning dove and left a lot of feathers behind. Well, Louise, I have missed you and I hope, as you said, that you will have more time to blog and that it will cheer you up.--Inger

Not knowing much about horses, I will say that I hope this passes quickly and the horses regain their health--If that's possible!

Take care, and enjoy your "found time!"

Our feeder is very busy today--The Juncos are back.
