I never made it out to the Thousand Acre Swamp yesterday. Life got in the way. I don't know whether or not I'll try today. Truth told, it's very isolated and I worry about being back in there along, even with my cell phone. I need to get out and walk, though, so I'll go someplace, even if it's only back to North Ponds Park.
Yesterday afternoon, the cardinals suddenly remembered that there was food around here and gathered in force. Don't they look like Christmas tree ornaments in this picture?
And, here they are, with some of their lady friends, and the ever present Mourning Doves, at the feeder.
They are such silly, flighty birds. And, they argue all the time. It's a good thing they're so pretty.

Yes, those cardinals look like Christmas decorations, as if you had tied bright red ribbons in the trees. How lucky you are to have so many. We get just very occasional visits from our one neighborhood couple.
They sure do look like ornaments! You have a lot of them too! (Just waiting for the time to get some food, I expect) I wish mine would all land in one area like that, I would know how many were about!
My sister refers to them as "those pesky cardinals" but I enjoy them just like I do "those pesky scamper rat" squirrels. :)
I love cardinals!!!! great pics! thx for sharing
that's amazing! very cool
I miss the cardinals and the orioles from my Princeton days. Such colorful and pretty birds.
are you keeping warm over there!? looks freezing
I really love the Cardinals and noticed today that a couple of 'the girls' weren't getting along--There was plenty of food, so who knows why?
But I hope you enjoyed your day Louise!
They look like Christmas ornaments in the tree!
Like Canyon Girl, I miss them. One winter we had a crazy male that spent hours every day attacking his image in the rear-view mirror of my car. It was fun to watch, but he made a mess of my car!
one time i counted over 14 cardinals in a tree. yes they are very decorative ornaments!
Wonderful photos! We seem to just have one cardinal couple who visit our bird feeders and for some unknown reason to me, the doves are not here this winter. I do miss them! They had many babies in our yard during the summer and fall but this winter they have vanished!
They do look like Christmas ornaments! Beautiful birds! I'm still hoping to see one some time.
That's very sensible, re-thinking that walk.
Your blog is interesting. I had the great pleasure of visiting him.
Best wishes
Such pretty birds. I wish I could trade you a few blue jays for a few cardinals and ducks.
