Out of My Rear Window 5-3-11

I'm a little late this week, I know.  I wasn't going to post anything, but one of my blogging friends gave me a much needed kick in the rear end (thank you).  I'm OK, just in what my Mom (of stoic German stock) used to call a "darn Irish black mood" when my Dad got the same way.  I've got a few troubling things going on in my life right now.  It's all really pretty trivial, compared to what others go through, but my way of handling bad things has always been to withdraw, stick my head in the sand and sing "Na, na, na, na" very loudly.  It takes me a while to realize that doesn't work, and start getting on with life again.

Anyway, as you can see, it's a wet, and dreary day here.  We had the wettest April on record, with 5.81 inches of rain, as opposed to an average 2.7 inches.  It looks like that's continuing into May.

There are a few birds at the feeder today.  I put up my new feeder and the birds love it.  It seems like there is always a chickadee sitting on one of the perches.
The Mourning Doves are present and accounted for.  I didn't even notice that I had caught a little Chipping Sparrow in the lower right hand corner.
And, in the back yard, the Turkey Ladies are hanging out.  We're still down to two, but, I'm very much afraid that, with all of this wet weather, the other Ladies won't be able to hatch their eggs.  Fingers crossed that I'm wrong.
And, last of all, a picture of me.  I took it to send to a friend, to show her how wild my hair gets when it's just washed.  But, it came out pretty good, for a picture taken in a mirror, and I thought I'd show you all that I'm not wasting away up here (or down here if you're Sophie, Jim or Gary.)

I sure hope you feel better soon! I loved seeing your backyard birds and the picture of you in the mirror! Really cute!
Blessings for a nice day - remember, just take one moment at a time and if that doesn't work...well, tomorrow is another day and will be here before you know it!! (Reading the Psalms always helps me too...)

Sorry about the "Blue Funk". Glad you posted, though. It cheered me up!
Grey days in your neck of the woods would put me into a funk all by themselves!
Love the picture in a mirror - nice to put a face to the blog!

Nice to finally put a face to the name, quite a friendly face! Hardly looks like one that would ever be in a mood. I do know what you mean about getting in a mood, they hit me once every so often and I have to look at why I am being moody, rationally.

I still love your back yard! It's all donned out in Springtime now - even if it is raining. My best hopes for the baby turkeys....

So glad to hear from you, Louise, and to see out your window. Glad for the photo of you too; you are so young looking! I thought you were an old fart like me, and you're not!

Glad to see you back. I was getting worried.

Our mourning doves arrived this week!!!! They stay with us for the summer... so the trill of their wings sounds like summer to me. We are, however, still waiting on our hummingbirds. They're late, and I hope that they're ok.

Fingers crossed for the turkey ladies. I'm wondering where they nest? In a tree? On the ground? I need to look in my books...

The yard sure looks green!

I was missing you and was considering sending out an SOS.

I know about those black and blue moods.

Our April has been the worse on record too. The whole country needs a pick me up.

Now is the time to consider taking a class on nature nutting, birding, wildflowers etc. Get your mind looking at different things.

The other stuff will work itself out. diversify now and get a Spirit Refill.

The meadows should be popping to life. Get ready for them.

I know nothing of Turkey nesting. We dont have much of theme here except over on the dry side. All ground nesters have a way of coping with the wet season. The young are precocial so incubation is long, about 28 days

It looks like all that rain has started to green things up a bit. And there's nothing like some spring flowers and leaves on the trees to help pull you through just about anything.
