Out of My Rear Window 1/9/11

When I got up this morning, and looked out of the window, all was quiet.  There was a light snow falling, a mourning dove on the ground, and some goldfinches on the feeder.

It didn't take long, however, for the snow to pick up.
More goldfinches decided that the niger feeder was the place to be.
It was snowing so hard that the mourning doves were getting covered with flakes.
And Mrs. Red-bellied Woodpecker decided that she needed the easy pickings that the feeders provided.
It's going to be a lovely, snowy day in Western New York.  I'll leave you with this video of the snow softly falling on my back yard.

Your pine provides the perfect backdrop for those big, fluffy flakes! :)

Man, that does look COLD! That hasn't hit here yet, but it's mighty cold and windy. Those poor birds, so glad you have those feeders, I imagine! The squirrels are all tucked away, I suppose. :-)

nice

We have a forecast mid week for SNOPOCOLYPSE 2011!!!

The Professor has not given the final stamp of disapproval but it looks like, right now we will get some snow and the area south will get MORE snow.

I remain surprised that you are not in a constant state of snowed in. Your back yard has certainly altered my perception of your region of NY. I thought your winter was usually a steady blanket of white

How beautiful. You live in a lovely spot and I love the view from your rear window. So different to mine. Thanks for this.

Hi Louise..
Lovely peaceful pictures...Mr. Red bellied is fueling up. I just came in from filling my feeders....they are threatening us with 'foul' pardon the pun weather tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Sounds like you all are hunkered in for the day.
Hugs Madi and Mom

A really lovely view Louise! We'll see if our snow arrives on Tuesday...

Any thoughts about why the goldfinch aren't eating any of the Niger seed I have out for them? In the summer/fall they couldn't get enough of it. I see them but they are eating the bigger seeds...

I didn't know woodpeckers came to birdfeeders, but when you're hungry...

We had a beautiful clear and very cold day but the clouds are moving in and we're under a storm warning beginning tonight till Tuesday morning. Good thing we have a new fifty pound bag of sunflower seed!

You get to have our summer birds for the winter! Those birds are long gone from here but I'm glad that you're taking good care of them in the snow.

We had a quiet day of snow too. I think that the quiet of a snow storm is my favorite part.
