Out of My Rear Window 1/2/11

After several days of above freezing weather, the snow is almost gone.  Only a few, dirty remnants remain.  Today is the start of a new weather pattern, though.  The temperatures are supposed to be seasonable, in the upper 20's and lower 30's.  There is supposed to be a little snow tomorrow.  Maybe it will freshen things up a bit.

As usual, the squirrels are around.
The goldfinches are too, but, for some reason, I could not get a good picture of them.  The camera just would not focus well enough.  But, while I was trying to get a good shot of the goldfinches, I got a surprise.  This female red-bellied woodpecker flew in to the feeder.  The picture's not perfect, but, good enough to show what a pretty girl she is.
Now, all I have to do is figure out why my camera is refusing to focus well, all of a sudden.

Have a Happy Sunday, everyone.

Wow! We can see grass out your window again! I love those squirrels - all tipped in gray. So pretty. Hope you can get your camera working again as we love your photos!

Backyard wildlife ... that's something I do miss from when we lived in Quebec. Now we live in an apartment, but there's a beautiful, big park nearby.

Wow ... you have even less snow than we! It's supposed to rain today, then we'll lose whatever little snow we have. Right now it's 8 degrees above freezing, so it's rather warm.

What type of camera do you have?

You lost all your snow! We did too but then we received a dusting overnight, which makes things look better. Your grass is so green....makes me want a snack!

Green grass! Ours is so brown and dead looking!

Love the squirrels, they are always so cute! The woodpecker is very identifiable. Hope you can get your camera sorted out!

Great pictures out of the Rear Window, this morning. I really like the squirrels.
Do you remember when you posted the video on the squirrel trying to get in the bird feeder and he hung upside. I laugh so hard at that funny squirrel, I had to show it to my son.
Hope you get your camera fixed. I look forward to all your pictures.

Hi Louise!!
Mrs. Redbellied is gorgeous. I just love them!!!

Is it normal (nothing about htis winter has been normal in Raleigh) to see your snow gone this time of year? As of yesterday we still had the Christmas evening snow on the ground....the temps rose to hig 50's and the rains came..no more snow!!! Today's high has been 60 and the low for tonight will be 20...Jumpin' Catfish,
Hugs madi and Mom

Sometimes my camera refuses to focus if my batteries or low, or if something in the shot is closer to it than the subject (like when I shoot through a window and there is smudge).

Your yard reminds me of a pinto horse covered in white patches. :)

Happy New Year and congrats on winning the give-away :)

Oh all your snow is gone too....just like here. not an ounce of snow on the ground even though it has been snowing all day...I am not crazy about all this changing temperatures from one minute to the next. Today it's freezing cold like 15 degrees different from yesterday....Love the squirrels....Happy New year Louise.

I love the woodpecker! What a nice surprise. We won't see green grass here until May. :(

The cold weather is supposed to return to Virginia too--We've had lots of birds at the feeders today. The Red-bellied woodpecker continues to be another one of my favorites!

I love the woodpecker. Hope your camera will be OK because your pictures are so great. I am sitting here cozy inside while a whole lot of snow is falling outside. Love it! Maybe it is heading your way.--Inger

Looks like spring there!
Those look like the squirrels we have here at our feeder!
Good that you caught the pic of the woodpecker. Nice.

How lovely that you have regular visitors to your backyard feeders, especially the pretty woodpecker -- I've never seen one of these -- definitely a bonus!

It looks to me like the camera moved during the exposure (probably a slow shutter speed because it was zoomed in on the bird), so what you've got is motion blur, not lack of focus blur.

We have a pair of red-bellied woodpeckers -- such beautiful birds and such a brilliant red on their crowns!

Oh, a red-bellied woodpecker! I had one come just one season at my former home, lovely to see. You have the best birdfeeder community!
