I Just Had to Get Out!

The leg is feeling better, and I have lessened the amount of Advil that I am taking each day.  It still is not anywhere near 100%, however, and I don't want to push things.

But, yesterday, I thought I was going to go stir crazy.  I seem to have become addicted to getting out and walking.  I need to see what is going on in the natural world.  So, I decided I would go, but I would only go to places where I didn't have to walk far.

The first place I went to was to the spit of land that separates the Bay from Lake Ontario.  The lake was cold looking, with an ice shelf extending several feet out into the water.  I saw an occasional bird flying fast across the water, but I couldn't get a picture of any, and they were too far away for me to tell what they were.

The bay was entirely frozen over.  It was warmer yesterday, but, not nearly warm enough to undo the effects of days of frigid weather.

There was a lone ice fisherman huddled over his hole in the ice.
Brrrrrr!

I decided, from there, to take a quick swing over to the Big Meadow.  I hadn't been there since fall.  From the looks of things, neither had many other people.  There was a small trodden path leading to the Big Woods, but, other than that, things were pretty pristine.  Cold looking, but pristine.

Kind of desolate looking, isn't it?

But, if you look closely, you can see the trail stretching out around the meadow.  It won't be too long now before I'm out there, looking for spring flowers.  I'm getting anxious.  This has been a hard season, even for those of us who are used to winter weather.

Oh Louise I love these pictures, The Big Meadow Tree and fence, awesome

This type of environment is so foreign to me. i would love to experience it.

I know how you feel about the flower Spring Fever. I am thinking in my mind how soon it will be to go up to Washington Park and scout orchids

OH my goodness what lovely pictures in and about your home....now Mom needs a big hot cup of coffee and I'll settle for a fire to warm our innards and paws.

I loved the trees and fenceline shot too! And BRRRR is right!!! Those chunks of ice suspended there. Yikes! Stay warm and rest a bit yet, Ms. Antsy Pants! I sure hope it's not sciatica...

I remember the cold of standing by Lake Michigan and how it literally goes right through you--BURR is so right!! But it's always good to get out, and I"m glad you got some fresh air!

Five to ten inches of snow predicted here in Northern VA--We'll see if the weather men get it right...So far, nothing!

I'm glad you were able to get out and even cut back on the Advil. I too, want to get out every day. Perhaps not tomorrow ...think it's going to be a snow day, with high winds. Some storm coming up again.

It seems our snow levels are pretty similar. Your pictures are lovely!

Wow, I love the frozen lake photos with the shelf of ice. It's gorgeous!

I understand the pining for springtime. We had our first day that it reached close to freezing today - and my eyes were scanning for bluebirds in the meadow... I had to remind myself that their arrival is still well in the future.

I find that my back/leg pain is actually helped by moderate cardiovascular exercise. I hope that yours is too!

We wanted to stop by and say hi and thanks for visiting our blog. We LOVE KB's blog and now that we are here, we see you have beautiful photos too. We will have to come back and read more - hope your leg is OK, and be careful out walking.

It's hard to fathom the attraction of ice fishing, but nice shot of the lone fisherman. Hope your leg continues to improve.

Addiction to walking is a good thing, Louise, especially when you live in an area as beautiful as you do.

Such strange weather we're having this year. This is our mildest winter in New Mexico for a very long time. Most every day is sunny and dry with blue skies. We've not had any rain since last August and only a handful of minor snowfalls.

I have to enjoy the beautiful snow through your blog instead. And your lake photos remind me of how much I miss living near the ocean. Looks so frigid, but starkly beautiful.

I hope that guy ice fishing caught something. :)

I'm glad you were able to get outdoors and enjoy some nature.
